Mid Spring foraging

Mid Spring foraging

El Cinco de Mayo! Come and explore with me at the DeYoung Natural Area located off of Cherry Bend Rd.  As we move throughout the year plant communities come into edibility and leave that stage.  Sometimes we see plants for only a short window each year. While others make themselves available for the entire season.  Come learn how to harvest with your goal towards sustainability in the field.  I'll show you the "what, when, where, why and how" of foraging in Northern Michigan.   Always remember to dress weather appropriate and expect to go on an actual hike from spot to spot.  Class will meet at the main parking lot of DeYoung. 1-4PM. Kids 13 and under are always free and encouraged. $25 Pre-registered and $35/Day of event.

Late Spring Foraging

Late Spring Foraging

Each season can be marked by its edible and medicinal plants.  Late spring foraging is marked by a retreat from the Greens and shoots of spring, and an advance of mushrooms, berries and flowers as we transition into summer.  Come and join me at the Grand Traverse Commons as we leave this spring season.   Learn fun and exciting information about foraging and plant biology while also learning how to harvest sustainably doing no harm to the environment. Always remember to dress weather appropriate and expect an actual hike.  Class will meet at the grassy area betwixt Higher Grounds Coffee and Pleasanton Bread.  1-4 PM Kids 13 and under are always free and encouraged.  $25/Pre registered and $35/Day of event.
