Clay's Magical Forest Management and Shiitake Log Extravaganza

Our forests are underutilized. We have the capacity to produce so much more food from our land than we currently do. We leave our forests choked up with trees to try and make them seem more “natural”.

The problem here is that we humans are natural, and the effect that we are capable of having on the natural world is tremendous. We are capable of altering forest ecosystems so that they benefit all of the wildlife that inhabits it. In this class we will not only be plugging mushroom logs(everyone leaves with 2 shiitake logs), but we will also be discussing the ways in which we can sustainably harvest wood from a forest and turn that into a crop to yield food from in the future.
